Introduction of the Board

The Board of Intermediate and secondary Education, Bannu was established w.e.f. 01-7-1990 as a result of bifurcation of BISE, Peshawar & have been functioning since then according to the NWFP Ordinance/Act 1990. The Board is responsible for control, organization and regulation of education of more than 700 educational institutions in public as well as private sector.

The Jurisdiction of the Board was consisting of the following four districts and two Agencies.

  • District Bannu.
  • District Lakki Marwat.
  • District D.I.Khan.
  • District Tank.
  • North Waziristan Agency.
  • South Waziristan Agency.
  • After bifurcation of the BISE, Bannu into BISE, Bannu and BISE, Dera Ismail Khan the jurisdiction of BISE, Bannu reduced to the following two districts and one Agency.  
  • District Bannu.
  • District Lakki Marwat.
  • North Waziristan Agency.

Initially the Board was set up in the hostel of Govt. Comprehensive Higher Secondary School , Bannu. However, because of establishment of N.W.F.P. University of Engineering & Technology Bannu Campus, the Board office was shifted in May 2002 to a rented building at Chambali Chowk, Bannu City . At present, the Board is functioning in its own building at Bannu Township. The Board is functioning with total staff of 72 personnel. Residential accommodation and Hostels will be provided in the second phase of the project at a later stage.

Objectives of the Board

The importance of aims and objectives of education is recognized by all the educational, professional, political, nonpolitical and religious associations, organizations and groups at various levels in their memoranda, letters and brochures. Nations rise and fall with the state of their consciousness; and the yardstick use to measure the state of consciousness of a nation is its level of education. Education without clear-cut aims is like a rudderless ship and as such, Secondary Boards play a pivotal role in providing enlightened education and examination services to the entire nation. The future of a nation depends mainly on its education system.

Objectives/Functions of the Board are as under:

  • Hold and conduct SSC , HSSC and Pakistani languages examinations.
  • Register/affiliate private & Govt. Institutions.
  • Fix, demand and receive fees as may be prescribed.
  • Prescribe courses of instructions for SSC and HSSC.
  • Appoint examiners and supervisory staff for the conduct of examinations.
  • Ensure provision of requisite facilities in the affiliated institutions.
  • Inspection of private institutions and establishment and up gradation of existing private institutions as per Ordinance.
  • Institute and awards scholarships/medals to talented students.
  • Ensure promotion of sports, declamation contests by holding sports tournaments, etc.
